betterbike is an unofficial app for PubliBike, run together with this website (betterbike.ch) as a personal project by Yannick Pulver — not affiliated with PubliBike in any way. If you have any questions about your data, email yannick.pulver@gmail.com.
The short version: no ads, no analytics, no tracking. Your PubliBike login and your location never reach my servers. Bike reports and rental events are stored in my database to make the app better — without your name, email, or anything personal — and you can ask me to delete them anytime.
This website
The website just shows public bike-availability statistics. There are no user accounts, no cookies, and no analytics. Like any website, the hosting provider (Vercel) sees your IP address in its standard server logs while serving you the page. The bike data itself lives in a Supabase database in Zurich, Switzerland and contains nothing about you.
The betterbike app
Your PubliBike account. You log in directly with PubliBike (velospot.info). Your password and login token stay between your phone and PubliBike — they are never sent to me and I can't see them. What PubliBike does with your account is covered by PubliBike's own privacy policy.
Your location. The app uses your location to show bikes and stations near you. That happens on your phone only — your location is never sent to me.
Bike reports and rentals. If you report a bike (say, a flat tire) or a rental succeeds or fails, that event is stored in my database so I can show bike issues and provide a better experience. It's saved without your name, email, or anything else about you — just an anonymous ID that prevents duplicate reports and spam.
Nothing else. The app has no ads, no analytics, and no crash reporting.
Services I use
- Vercel hosts this website.
- Supabase (hosted in Zurich, Switzerland) stores the bike statistics and reports.
- Google Gemini occasionally writes short explanations for unusual station activity. It only ever sees station statistics — never anything about you.
- PubliBike / velospot.info handles your account and rentals on its own terms — see their privacy policy above.
How long I keep things
Station statistics are kept for up to 180 days (detailed data) and 2 years (network-wide totals). Bike reports and rental events are kept until you ask me to delete them.
Your rights
You can ask me anytime what's stored about you, or ask me to delete it — just email yannick.pulver@gmail.com. One honest caveat: since reports aren't stored under your name, I'll need your PubliBike (velospot) user ID to find yours.

If anything here changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
